You can buy specific microfibre polishing cloths that are made special for dainty items. Alternatively, you can use a dipping basket to dissolve tarnish and dirt from dainty jewellery that is tricky to clean properly with a cloth due to its shape and size. This is also ideal for cutlery too.
Use impregnated silver polishing cloths or fibers. Silver is a soft metal, so don’t rub too hard. Use straight, even strokes – never rub silver crosswise or with a rotary movement.
A cream or liquid polish, available from most supermarkets is often recommended by manufacturers of most silver services – these products are ideal for moderately tarnished items. Allow to dry to a fine, powdery deposit, then buff with a soft, dry cloth.
Also foaming paste is ideal for cutlery, and for covering larger areas such as platters. Apply this paste with a damp sponge and lather to a foam. Rinse in water and dry it. Sprays are good for covering large areas, wadding is available for heavily tarnished items.
